“We all die. The goal isn’t to live forever, the goal is to create something that will.” - Chuck Palahniuk
I know this is more of a “death” quote, but I liked it a lot and I find it really suits the occasion because Marilyn did create something that will live on forever - her memory and talent and so much more. Marilyn was 36 in this photograph, as well she was 36 when she left us. Her last birthday was rushed because the studio didn’t want anymore distractions from filming. They gave Marilyn a short amount of time, half an hour to be precise, with a standard cake (which the cast and crew pitched in to buy) to celebrate her birthday. Compared to Elizabeth Taylor’s birthday bash earlier on that year, which was presented to her by 20th Century Fox who forked out 6 grand to celebrate the celeb’s birthday. Yet Marilyn’s director on set Something’s Got to Give, George Cukor, didn’t even sign her birthday card.
Marilyn is a gem, a one of a kind beautiful human being who deserved everything in the world. All the glitter and gold, all the love and affection, and certainly all of the respect and kindness. And I hope she got what she wished for, behind the scenes, behind the smiles, behind all of the facts and stories I’ve read, and certainly behind all of the alcohol and drug abuse - I hope she was happy with her life. Deep down I hope she was satisfied and proud of who she was, how hard she worked for her happiness and how she impacted the lives of millions. She would have turned 86 on June the 1st. Even though she has passed nearly 50 years ago, she will forever remain a very important character and role model in my life. As well as the rest of the world and certainly the rest of Hollywood, California - where her home and her heart belongs.
A very Happy Birthday to you, Miss Norma Jeane. With all of the love and happiness I have to offer you, I will always be your greatest fan.

How I want to be cheered up if I’m down.

gotta love when you’ve wanted something for years and years and when you finally build up the courage to do it you realise it’s the craze now and everyone else looks 1000x better than you ever would if you did it and in the end put yourself off the idea and end up super sad. fuck yeah.
